Beat Overwhelm: 5 Steps to Make Your First $1,000 From Your Online Health Business

If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you know the basic steps of building your online health business.

You may have even heard about choosing a niche, and you may have even bought a domain name or built your first website.

But for some reason, the knowledge about HOW TO DO IT hasn’t turned into a profitable practice yet.

Maybe you’re not helping lots of people yet, or you’re not financially where you want to be yet, or you’re not having the impact you dreamt you would.

But the Good News is…

There is a solution.

(Because you see I’ve been there, I know exactly how it feels.)

You want a different life so badly, but the path between where you are right now and where you dream of being seems too long, too twisty, too steep.

What used to be hope and excitement about your dream of an online health business has turned into something else: overwhelm.

If you struggle with overwhelm, you’re not alone.

In fact, most of the health professionals in the Practitioner Liberation Project community have felt completely and utterly frozen with overwhelm at some point along the path to building their successful online health business.

And I’m here to tell you, it’s not your fault.

Most health certification programs don’t teach you how to be a business owner or how to do marketing. But that’s not wrong, they were focused on teaching you how to be a skilled healer.

And all that translates to the type of emails we’ve been getting from health professionals for years… like these from Sue and Angela:

“I’m tired of trying to work things out for myself. Honestly, sometimes I’ve been in tears trying how to figure things out like Facebook, etc. and I want so much for my business to work for the betterment of mankind. I see medicine has come to the end of its tether and has nowhere else to go but to us.” – Sue

“I know that this is what I am supposed to do with the rest of my life. People are suffering and they are lost. They are being misled by conventional medicine and I want to be a voice and an advocate as well as a resource for them. I want to be the person in other people’s lives that I wish so desperately I had in my life when I was searching for answers. At 46 years old and completely changing careers, I feel like I need every minute to spend studying my material and not trying to spin my wheels trying to figure out how to market my new business.” – Angela

The thing is – Angela, Sue, and even you aren’t that far away from having a successful online health business.

You’re just missing a few key things that will pull you out of overwhelm and into a practice full of clients.

What’s Holding You Back From Your First $1,000?

It usually isn’t lack of knowing “what to do” that’s preventing you from building your business.

It’s usually just plain not knowing how to do it.

See, most marketing “experts” give you the big steps like “build a website” but gloss over all the little steps.  Trying to follow most business advice is like trying to climb a staircase by jumping 20 stairs at a time.

Or as we like to say – the “gaps” between the steps are just WAY TOO BIG.

When you read those steps, you don’t feel relief like “I finally know what to do.”

Nope, what you feel is overwhelmed. A million questions come into your mind instantly.

The best way to “shrink the gaps” and overcome overwhelm is to break things down.

Then, when you think the steps are small enough, cut them in half again.

It’s like that saying about how to eat an elephant… one little bite at a time.

It’s true for making changes in your health, and it’s especially true for building your online health business.

And while it’s great for us to tell you all this, we think it’d be better if we showed you exactly how we do this.

Maybe you’d even walk away feeling less overwhelm and ready to tackle your business.

Let us lend you a hand and pull you out of that overwhelm.

Follow These 5 Steps to Make Your First $1,000 In Your Online Health Business

I’m going to share with you 5 basic steps to start making money in your online health business.

Of course you’ll eventually need a website.  You’ll need to build an email list.  You’ll want to be building your social media following.

But today, we’re just going to focus on 5 steps to making your first $1,000 that you can take action on by the weekend!

They’re the same 5 steps we used to start our 1-on-1 health coaching practice that was generating an average of $38,364 per month.

And they’re the same steps our Practitioner Liberation Project students have been implementing in their businesses since 2015.

I want to share them with you today, along with some specific examples and a step-by-step tutorial on how you can get your next clients this coming weekend.

As you read through these, I want you to be thinking about how many of these 5 steps you currently have implemented in your online health business. Let’s dive in.

Step #1: Choose Who You’re Going To Help

The number one rule of building a successful online health business is: The more you try to help everyone, the more you get lost in a sea of practitioners online.

It you want to make your first $1,000, you have to choose who you’re going to help.  And it can’t be “everyone.”

I know you’re probably a very skilled health expert. And I also know that you could probably help most people that worked with you, everything from someone that wants to lose weight to someone that needs help with digestive issues.

But those health professionals that try to help anyone are the ones that never end up with a full practice.

Instead, they build their website and wonder why no one is booking appointments with them.

We call it wearing the “invisible lab coat.” You feel horrible because you can’t get clients – it’s like you’re invisible to them. And people in the world who NEED your help can’t find you.

To get clients, you have to stand out. But you can’t stand out to everyone – you need to pick exactly who you want to work with, and then focus on standing out just to that specific, unique group of individuals that only you serve (some call it a niche).

Still not sure what we mean?

Here’s an example of a niche we helped create for one of our successful PLP students, Jaime Ward: Christian Moms, 30-40, suffering from Autoimmune Disease who are struggling with digestive pain and feeling tired all the time.

Remember, you can’t stand out to everyone. If you want to make your first $1,000 you have to choose exactly who you’re going to help. That’s the secret to taking off your invisible lab coat.

Step #2: Find The #1 Thing They Need Help With Right Now

The next step is the most important step… you have to deeply understand what your ideal client is struggling with.

I want you to imagine that it’s 2am on a Friday night.

Your ideal client, let’s call her Jill, she’s lying awake in bed overcome with anger and sadness about her health problems.

She decides to get out of bed because she can’t sleep and heads downstairs to the living room.

In a moment of tears, she grabs her iPad and opens Google.

“It’s time” she says… “I’m fed up. I’m going to figure this out.”

She starts typing…

What does she type? What is she seeking a solution for that night?

That’s what you have to figure out in this moment.

Because if you can be the solution to whatever she’s typing, you’re going to have a successful online health practice.

Let me give you a few examples:

Example Niche 1: Men 30-40, diagnosed with Celiac Disease who are struggling with chronic diarrhea, low energy, and malnourishment.

What would they be searching for at 2am on a Friday night?

Likely any of the following things:

  • “How to stop chronic diarrhea from Celiac Disease”
  • “Celiac Disease Diarrhea”
  • “How to get more energy with Celiac Disease”
Example Niche 2: Burned out working moms, 30-45, struggling with being tired all the time, sad for no reason, and holding on to extra baby weight.

What would they be searching for at 2am on a Friday night?

Likely any of the following things:

  • “Holding onto extra baby weight after birth”
  • “Why am I tired all the time?”
  • “What to do about feeling sad for no reason”
Example Niche 3: Married women, 40-50, with pre-diabetes who are suffering from cravings, fatigue, and weight gain.

What would they be searching for at 2am on a Friday night?

Likely any of the following things:

  • “Pre-diabetes fatigue”
  • “Extra weight gain from pre-diabetes”
  • “How to stop late-night sugar cravings in pre-diabetics”

Are you starting to see the trends?

The most important thing is for you to hone in on one of those things. Which one are you the most equipped to help with?

Remember: the practitioners who have successful online health businesses are the ones that choose a specific niche and narrow in on the primary ways they help their niche. That’s the biggest difference.

If you want to have a full practice, this is a critical step to standing out and having clients waiting to work with you for months.

Once you decide on the #1 thing you’re going to be helping with, it’s going to make the rest of the steps so much easier. I’ll show you why in a moment.

Step #3: Craft Your Compelling Offer

At this point, you know two things:

  1. Who you’re going to help (your niche)
  2. The #1 thing they’re seeking a solution for

You know who you want to help and what they care about.

Step 3 is all about figuring out how you can help them.

We recommend starting with free consults as a powerful step toward making your first $1,000.

Why?

Because free consults are the most effective way to convert someone into a happy paying client. But it only works if you’re doing your free consults the right way (more on that soon).

The most common thing we hear from practitioners is that Free Calls are a “waste of time” or that they deal with “too many tire kickers” and they stop doing them.

The truth is: if you aren’t converting 50% or more of your free consult into clients you’re missing out on the most effective way to get your practice bursting at the seams (and make your first $1,000 quickly).

The first important step in getting to 50% is to give your free consult a specific name.

A name for it that’s specific to your niche.

No one wants a “free consult” – instead call it something that helps the #1 thing they’re seeking a solution for like we discussed in Step 2.

Let’s look at these three niche examples again from Step 2 and come up with a targeted free consult that they would probably LOVE:

Example Niche 1: Men 30-40, diagnosed with Celiac Disease who are struggling with chronic diarrhea, low energy, and malnourishment.

What free consult would they book in a heartbeat?

“Diarrhea Troubleshooting Session”

Example Niche 2: Burned out working moms, 30-45, struggling with being tired all the time, sad for no reason, and holding on to extra baby weight.

What free consult would they book in a heartbeat?

“Health Deep Dive: Why You’re Feeling Tired All The Time”

Example Niche 3: Married women, 40-50, with pre-diabetes who are suffering from cravings, fatigue, and weight gain.

What free consult would they book in a heartbeat?

“Root Cause Analysis: How to Stop Pre-Diabetic Weight Gain”

When you create a free consult that provides a specific result, you’ll increase the amount of people that take you up on it… and increase the amount of people that become clients.

Not only that, but it’s the fastest way our PLP Students are able to build their practice and get their first $1,000 of revenue.

Step #4: Book Four Free Consults For This Weekend

You know who you want to help, what they need help with, and how you can help them – there’s only one place to go from here: it’s time to book some free consults.

And just because you don’t have an email list or a big social media following yet, doesn’t mean you can’t book free consults.

Those will be important down the road. Your website. Your blog posts. Growing your email subscribers.

But for now the best place to find your first four free consults is actually with the people you already know.

Here are three places you can find clients for your free consults right now:

  1. Friends and family (ask for referrals)
  2. Facebook or Instagram Friends
  3. Any Facebook Groups your niche is hanging out in

What we’ve found is the biggest thing holding people back from booking their first free consult is fear. That moment right before you finally “put yourself out there” to family and friends and the world.

You might relate to this fear.

You might be scared that no one will want your help (that’s the big one). Or maybe you’re afraid that your friends and family will laugh at you for putting yourself out there.

It’s OK to be afraid right now. Acknowledge this is a little scary and then take the step anyway.

All you need to do is take the compelling offer for a free consult you came up with it in Step 2 and offer it to them.

For friends and family, send them an email about your free consult.

For Facebook or Instagram, put up a post about your free consult.

Even if they don’t have the specific problem you’re looking to help with, they might know someone who does.

Here’s what that might look like from one of the niches from above:

Example Niche: Burned out working moms, 30-45, struggling with being tired all the time, sad for no reason, and holding on to extra baby weight.

Hi Friends and Family, some of you know that I recently graduated with my Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Certification.

I’m trained and ready to help burned out working mama’s who are stuck feeling tired all the time. If you or someone you know can relate, please share this message with them:

Attention Working Mamas: I know why you’re tired (and it has nothing to do with how much sleep you get). If you’re ready to find out the REAL reason you’re exhausted, burned out, and still carrying around the baby weight, it’s time for us to chat. I’m a Functional Diagnostic Nutritionist and I’m hosting free 30-minute sessions called “Health Deep Dive: Why You’re Feeling Tired All The Time.”

During our 30-minute session together, I’ll go deep into your health history and start to uncover the root causes behind your exhaustion. Next, I’ll make some recommendations to help you get back the energy you used to have.

It’s completely free and if you like what we uncover, we can discuss working together in my health practice.

Reply back with a time that works for you this weekend and we’ll get your Deep Dive scheduled together.

NOTE: Always book the calls right away. When someone responds to your email or post, make sure you book the free call in your very first response. Don’t give them a chance to get cold feet!

Once you’ve sent emails to your family members and posted on your personal Facebook or Instagram pages, make sure you also explore some of the Facebook groups in your niche.

There are thousands of niche Facebook groups out there specifically designed to help people struggling with various health challenges.

Join the group and start helping people. Don’t just drop right in and start offering free consults… you’ll probably get kicked out.

But once you’ve been able to help answer a few questions and establish yourself as a trusted resource who actually cares about doing the right thing, you’ll likely be able to send messages to people that might be a good fit to book a free consult with you.

Your goal: get four free consults booked this weekend.

Step # 5: Turn Those Four Free Consults Into Happy Paying Clients

Remember: Booking free consults is a powerful step toward making that first $1,000.

If you aren’t converting 50% or more of your free consult into clients, you’re missing out on the most effective way to get your practice bursting at the seams.

Let me show you what that looks like.

Let’s say you reach out to friends and family, Instagram, or Facebook groups and book 4 free consults for this weekend.

If you can convert 50% of them into clients, you’d end up with two new clients.

And if your hourly rate is $75/hour and each new client ends up working with you for 16 appointments over the next 6 months, you’ve just made yourself $1,200.

But if there’s one place the whole thing can fall apart, it’s the Free Consult. Being able to convert 50% of your free consults into happy paying clients is critical.

There is a right and wrong way to do these free consults… and the right way is fun, makes you money, and doesn’t have that “salesy” feeling.

Doing them wrong feels heavy, scary, pressurized, and icky. Not to mention you keep ending up without clients.

Doing free calls the right way is one of the main ways to make sure your practice is never dry again.

We want to show you the exact method we used in our practice. And actually, most of the health professionals in the PLP community use this same method and end up converting 80% of their free calls into clients.

If you’re ready for it, here’s the free consult tutorial to complete the 5 steps to earning your first $1,000 in your online health business.
